Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitarist. She also sings. She was among the youngest and first female to win an award from the British House of Commons Shield she's received 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live and to be a presenter for the awards ceremony. Anoushka is a rising star in Indian sitar. She's a daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the beginning of her career moving between London as well as New Delhi. Her first performance took place on stage in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. Then she relocated into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is still pursuing a successful career in recording and performing despite being young. For a long time she regularly performs with her father. The singer made Anourag her first album solo in 1998. Two years later she released the Grammy nomination-winning Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. She has appeared at many major venues around the globe. Anoushka isn't just a musician. She published Bapi The love of my life in 2002. It is a biography which pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. in 2003 she appeared in Dance Like a Man as the Bharat Natyam artist. Her career continues to grow and she'll continue to achieve great success in the near future. Anoushka was born in England and spent a lot of her youth between London and Delhi. She then moved to California and went to the high school there. When she was nine years old, she began studying music under her father making her performing first on the sitar 4 years later, at his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Anoushka was a part of her father throughout his global tour, gained an impressive number of experiences. When she was in her teens, she played at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. As a tribute to her status as one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was given the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
